Yes, Maria Clara. Sweethearts actress Maine Mendoza and actor and newly minted Quezon City Congressman Arjo Atayde are engaged and getting married soon.

The announcement of the couple’s engagement was publicized in all media based in Manila.

Maine, 27, who is Nicomaine del Capili Mendoza in real life, herself made the announcement in jest. This as she wrote “Wait, whaaaat??? We’re engaged?!” in the caption a seemingly shocked on her Instagram account.

Arjo, 31, whose full name is Juan Carlos Campo Atayde, also confirmed the announcement on his Instagram. He wrote: “My turn, I will marry you cutie” followed by a heart emoji and the date 07.28.22.”

The couple, however, has yet to set a wedding date, but fans and friends are all agog over the news of the stars of GMA Network and ABS-CBN.

Well-wishers in and around showbiz sent messages of love and congratulations for the couple.

Members of their family, like Arjo’s mom, actress Sylvia Atayde and sister, actress Ria Atayde, welcomed Maine into their family with open arms.

Sylvia wrote: “He asked Her and She said, Yes!”

“Finally!! Welcome to the family, Maine. Thank you for loving my son. Love you Nak,” Sylvia added.

Photos from the engagement which have circulated also showed Arjo’s father and siblings, plus members of Maine’s family, including her parents, Teodoro Mendoza and Mary Ann Mendoza, in attendance.
GMA Network, Maine’s mother studio, reported that ABS-CBN’s Sylvia Sanchez wasted no time in welcoming Maine to their family following her engagement to her son Arjo.

On Instagram,  the veteran actress posted several photos from Arjo’s proposal to Maine.

In the photos, Sylvia warmly embraced Maine and kissed her on the forehead, while Maine had a wide smile on her face.
“Thank you for loving my son. Love you Nak,” Sylvia said. “I promise that I will take care and love you as my own Daughter.”

Arjo’s sister, Ria, also congratulated Maine and her brother on their engagement.

“You’ve always been Mister Grand Gestures @arjoatayde. But I think among all you’ve done, this has got to be my most favorite,” she said on Instagram.

“And I think among all the many changes we welcomed in our lives this year, this has got to be the best. So excited to officially welcome you into the family @mainedcm.”

Maine, on her part, also thanked Sylvia for the sweet message.

“Thank you so much po, tita,” she replied.

According to Maine, Sylvia has been so “kind,” “understanding,” and “supportive” from the beginning. And for that, she’s “thankful.”

“Kay Tito Art, saks lang. Char lang po, love you boooth!,” she added in jest, referring to Sylvia’s husband Arturo Atayde. (Jeanne Michael Penaranda)
