Daughter of late Manila Mayor Villegas passes away in Bay Area

SAN FRANCISCO – Maria Teresa “Baby” Villegas, daughter of the late Manila Mayor Antonio J. Villegas and long-time resident of the Bay Area, died in her sleep on April 19, her brother Tony Villegas announced.
In his Facebook post, Tony Villegas said “With heavy heart, I announce the demise of my eldest sister this Tuesday morning 4/19/2022.”
She was found alone and lifeless in her place in Millbrae, California when a friend visited after she did not respond to phone calls, said Tony as he called for prayers for her peaceful repose.
She attended Maryknoll elementary and high school. She graduated with BS in Business Administration degree from Notre Dame De Namur University in the 1970s.
Thereafter, she worked as Executive Assistant to the Vice President and General Manager of Marriott Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia. In mid-1990s, she moved to Manila and worked as International Affairs and Cultural Director for then Mayor Alfredo Lim. She served as member of the Board of Regents of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod of Manila (Manila City University), first free-tuition university in Asia.
She is survived by her son Ean and his family in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Alumni of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) mourned the passing of Villegas who was their guest and adviser during the inauguration of the Mayor Antonio J. Villegas bust and mini park inside the PLM campus. Then Vice President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, whose father President Diosdado Macapagal signed the PLM Charter (RA 4196), was the guest of honor and speaker during the event.
