MILPITAS CITY – Filipino American Council Member Evelyn Q. Chua has assumed as vice mayor of Milpitas City following a reorganization of the new City Council.
This as former Vice Mayor Carmen Montano assumed as the first woman Mayor in Milpitas history.
Chua’s assumption was lauded by Philippine News Today editor in chief Alfred Gabot, her classmate in high school in Manila.
Chua has been very active in the city since winning a seat in the City Council.
Also sworn in were Hon Lien and FilAm lawyer Garry Barbadillo as City Councilmembers.
Scores of supporters attended the swearing in last month as Milpitas City Manager Steve McHarris honored former mayor Rich Tran and former Councilmember Karina Dominguez for their service…
Dominguez was presented a flag that had flown over Milpitas’ Civic Center during the program.
Dominguez served one four-year term as Councilmember. She ran against Montano for Mayor in the November election, but came in third place with 25.01% of the vote.
McHarris also presented a flag to Tran, who thanked everyone for supporting him during his three back-to-back mayoral terms.
As mayor, Tran supported the Filipino community and renewed the Milpitas-Dagupan City sister-city agreement. (cmptpr1962@yahoo.com.ph)
